Traditional Motion vs. Read & React
1. After you pass the ball
- Traditional Motion: You make a choice. After you pass, you can choose to go set a screen for a teammate on the other side of the floor.
- Read & React: You don't choose. After you pass, you must sprint directly to the basket. You have to clear out so someone else can fill your spot.
2. When screens happen
- Traditional Motion: You have to read your defender. If they trail behind you, you curl toward the basket. If they cheat under the screen, you flare out for a shot.
- Read & React: The rules make the choice for you. You don't have to guess what the defender is doing. The system tells you exactly where to go based on the type of screen being set.
3. When someone dribbles right at you
- Traditional Motion: You and your teammate have to be on the same page. It could mean you cut backdoor, it could mean you swap spots, or it could mean you take a handoff.
- Read & React: It always means one thing. If a teammate dribbles toward you, you cut to the basket immediately. No guessing, no waiting.
4. When the ball goes into the post
- Traditional Motion: The players on the outside swap spots or screen for each other to keep their defenders busy while the post player works.
- Read & React: The person who passed the ball sprints right past the post player looking for a quick handoff or a layup. Everyone else waits for that first cut to happen.
